Our four Reception classes are located in the main school buildings. Each class has a fully qualified teacher and specialist Nursery Nurse to support every pupil with their learning. Pupils are encouraged to progress at their own pace with teachers gently challenging and motivating the children, placing a strong emphasis on care for one another.
The children follow a varied, topic based curriculum that encompasses the themes and principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage. Carefully planned teacher led activities are combined with the opportunities to explore and investigate. Close links with parents are encouraged including contributions to the Learning Journals and homework. The children benefit from using the school’s excellent facilities as well as specialist Music and PE lessons.
Broadening the children’s experiences is a key aim of Reception staff and educational visits such as Warwick Castle are planned into the curriculum, providing important learning opportunities for them. Regular educational visitors for example, Sir Teachalot, enrich their learning experiences, firing their imaginations for their topic on castles. Reception children also enjoy the opportunity of participating in many lunch time clubs such as cheerleading.
