English

English is fundamental to every area of the school curriculum and all staff devote much time in helping children to use language effectively and with ease, for all purposes. Speaking, listening, reading and writing skills are all progressively developed. The aim is for every child to have a sure command of spoken English and an enthusiasm for the written word. The English Speaking Board examinations, taken by every girl in the Middle and Upper School, provide the opportunity for them to gain confidence in public speaking within a supportive and friendly situation.

Reading programmes are wide ranging and there are excellent library facilities in the Lower School and main library as well as in the form rooms. The school librarian is always available to help individuals or groups during the school day, holds a weekly lunchtime session with each Middle and Upper School year group and organises literacy competitions, events and book clubs.
