History

In the early years the teaching of History is through topic work where the foundations for an understanding of the passing of time are founded. As the children develop they learn about the major issues and events in the history of their own country, of the world and how these inter-relate. Throughout the course, there is the opportunity for the children to handle artefacts, pictures and photographs, progressing to maps, documents, architectural and environmental clues. They are encouraged to question these sources, discuss differing points of view and to plan and carry out investigations using appropriate resources. Visits are arranged to historical venues and a variety of living history days are organised in school so that the children may have practical experience of people, situation, periods and events.
